Facts about the Taoyuan Airport MRT

  • There is FREE Wi-Fi on board all Taoyuan Airport MRT trains.
  • The MRT is the fastest way to reach the airport (or Taipei, depending on which way you’re heading).
  • The MRT shuttle is free between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2.
  • Express and commuter trains alternate with a 5 minute interval until midnight.

Taking the bus from Taoyuan Airport to Taipei

Due to the horrible, frustrating heavy traffic along the way between Taoyuan Airport and Taipei City, there is simply no point to take the bus or taxi, unless your hotel is along a bus route, or because the MRT is not running when you land in Taiwan. If you must take the taxi, you can check this page.

Another alternative is of course renting a car right from the airport. More and more people opt for that option these days. You can see how to rent a car at Taoyuan Airport here.

Why go to Taipei Main Station?

Taipei Main Station is the heart of Taiwan’s capital when it comes to transportation. If you are planning to visit attractions such as museums in Taipei, this is where you can start your adventure. The Main Station is at the centre of the MRT system and that’s why so many travelers decide to base themselves in this area.

Normal trains from the TRA all leave from, or pass through the Main Station. Also, the biggest bus terminal in the city is located just behind Taipei Main Station.

For HSR (High-Speed Train) travel to destinations such as Taichung, Kaohsiung, Tainan, Changhua, Miaoli, Chiayi, and Hsinchu, you don’t have to travel to Taipei from Taoyuan Airport. You can simply take a taxi or shuttle bus to the Taoyuan HSR Station – 15 minutes away.
