Sun Yat-sen, is seen as the father of modern China.
With its classical Chinese palatial architecture and giant, orange roof, the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall in Taipei is one of the most iconic buildings in Taiwan and a real treat for photographers.
Dedicated to Sun Yat-sen, popularly referred to as the “father of the country”, this museum and memorial is to commemorate the man and his legacy.
Most tourists tend to skip this spot, but it’s worth a look, especially if you’re interested in the history of China and Taiwan. The hall contains a small museum with items related to the founding of the Republic of China and stories about Sun Yat-sen himself.
However, the hall has taken up a role more as a community center, so looking into events that are taking place would be worth a shot. The large open space that links the hall itself to exhibition areas is often used as a space for public performances, and it’s a great place to walk around and observe some ancestral Chinese architecture.
The inside of Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall contains a 19-foot bronze statue made in the image of Sun Yat-sen, and a public-use library that houses 1.4 million books. Also, as a community center, it is home to many lectures and discussion forums about Taiwanese art, politics, and literature.
