Baishawan 白沙灣 – White Sand Beach

White Sand Beach, or Baishawan 白沙灣 is one of the most beautiful beaches in Kenting National Park. Period. The sand is golden yellow, there are few rocks, few waves, and little development. It’s an idyllic spot, especially during weekdays. Must-visit place!

Southern end of Baisha Beach

I think I should re-phrase what I just wrote in my introduction. Baisha is not only one of Kenting’s most beautiful beaches, it’s one of the most beautiful beaches in all of Taiwan.

It’s possible to snorkel at Baisha when the sea is calm, but you won’t see too many fish here and the coral is not as nice as Banana Bay, Wanlitong, or Little Bali. The northern end of Baisha is the best spot for snorkeling.

You can rent a beach umbrella for around 300NT$ per day. If you rent it mid-afternoon, try cutting the price to 250$. Showers and bathrooms cost 20NT$.

During the week and the low season, there’s seldom anyone here, and you can get the whole beach to yourself.

It’s facing the Taiwan Strait, so it’s not prone to massive waves, crazy whitewash, and strong winds like you might experience along the east coast. Baishawan is a place where you can chill under an umbrella all day long, and it’s got facilities (showers, toilets, convenience store) to make your beach day all the more convenient and comfortable.

Baisha Accommodation / Hotels

There’s a few places near Baisha where you can spend the night. Most guesthouses around here are in the mid to high-end range and still require you to drive a few minutes. If you’re looking for cheap accommodation such as a backpacker’ hostel, you’ll get more options in Hengchun, 10 minutes away by car.

Camping at Happy Baisha

You can camp at Happy Baisha. Some sites even have ocean view. This campground is painfully busy on weekends and holidays, but if you can get there during the week, you can have the whole campground to yourself! It’s a really, really nice campground with all the facilities you’d need to make your life convenient – showers, water, electricity, picnic tables…

Food / Restaurants / Drinks

To get to Baisha, you’ll have to walk through privately-owned parking lots. The owners all have fridges by the path where you can buy soft drinks, beer, and water. Some places even sell freshly pressed fruit juice. Happy Baisha, at the northern end of the bay, has a bar where you can get cocktails and beer on tap. It’s pretty much the only place where there is some sort of nightlife in Baisha.
