Need a Taipei Travel Guide?

Taipei Travel Secrets is 100% researched and updated for 2012. It's the only book you'll ever need to discover the REAL Taipei!

Hi, my name is Ugo and I'm the author of Taipei Travel Secrets, a travel guide I wrote to help you prepare your trip to Taiwan's beautiful capital.

I have been living in Taiwan for 12 years and I know Taipei like the back of my hand. I can guarantee that you'll have the trip of a lifetime if you follow the advice I give and visit the places I recommend in this Taipei travel guide.

I've had the chance to visit all the big cities in Asia, and to this day, I firmly believe that Taipei is the most fascinating metropolis on the continent.

Taipei is the #1 place in the world to witness authentic Chinese culture and ancient traditions. And the greatest thing about it is that (for some crazy, unknown reasons) it's still not on the must-see list of most travelers, and the cost of things like food, transportation, hotels, and nightlife is only a fraction of what you'd pay in Tokyo or Hong Kong.

cindyUgo,
Rich (my hubby, who posted to you earlier) and i just returned from 10 (short) days in taipei. we felt so at home i think we could have stayed 10 months. love, love, love your e-book--thanks so much for all the great info/tips! we had no luck finding a hard-copy book, but your e-book was an even better find. and, love, love, love taipei/taiwan :) we can see why you enjoy it so much. we do plan to return someday...

"Taipei Travel Secrets is the ultimate Taipei city guide, the best way to discover the most unique attractions in Taiwan's beautiful capital city."
Bonjour Ugo,
I've been printing pages from dozens of websites... forums... Trip Advisor... blogs... What a waste of time, paper and ink. I'm so glad I found your website. Your book is everything I could want. I am now well prepared for my trip to Taipei. THANK YOU for providing me with such a brilliant publication! Regards,
Joy, from Canada, living in China

ugo writingWriting this guide was so cool!

I had so much fun writing this Taipei travel guide! It pushed me to go back to places I hadn't visited in a while and to check out new restaurants and little stores. I walked around Taipei with a different pair of eyes. I was trying to see the streets, the sights and the people as if it was the first time again. I saw my good old Taipei from new angles, a different perspective.

I am very excited to be publishing this Taipei travel guide. By the way, the idea to write a book about Taipei wasn't mine. It's actually one of the visitors on Taiwanese Secrets who suggested I do it. He wrote me: "You should write for Lonely Planet. Or even better... publish your own book!"

"Complete visitor information, cultural insights, plus hotels, restaurants, and places to go out at night!"
Hi Ugo,
I just wanted to say thank you for your guidebook about Taipei, I enjoyed reading it from cover to cover. I had a wonderful time during my trip (although it was too short) and I'm already planning another visit to Taiwan. I'd like to tour the southern part of the island. Email me as soon as you publish a book about Southern Taiwan!

Are you ready? (Nobody is at the beginning.)

This book isn't only about Taipei. It's also about the little (yet important) things you need to know before you head to your travel agent to buy a ticket for Taiwan. In the first chapters, I answer the following questions:

  • What kind of visa do you need to visit Taipei?
  • What's the difference between the landing and the visitor visa?
  • Where can you apply for a Taiwanese visa?
  • How much does a visa to Taiwan cost?
  • How's the weather in Taipei?
  • What should you bring with you?
  • How can you stay safe?
  • Do you need vaccination? (As well as other important health issues.)
  • How much money should you prepare for your trip? How can you save money?
This book is a must have!!
Ugo has included everything you need to know about Taipei. His eBook helped me to prepare my first trip to Taipei. Everything is covered: what to see, where to eat, sleep, party, and how to get around the city by metro (MRT) and bus. If you follow Ugo's suggestions, you'll have a wonderful experience. It's the best resource available online about Taipei and Taiwanese culture. Advice: Print it out! I only had it on my Kindle Graphite 6 and I found it troublesome to read on the go.

  • Find the best places to rent a car or scooter.
  • and more tips about walking, cycling, hiking, and driving.

Taipei can be a very confusing city (orientation / transportation -wise) and it's usually the main reason why some travelers dislike traveling here. Let me assure you that I have made extra efforts to explain in details how to get around this urban jungle. It can be a breeze if you follow someone who's walked every street around town.

Ugo, one thing I realize after buying your book is: It's no longer necessary to buy "real" books in bookstores. I was suspicious before typing my credit card number but I'm glad I went over my fear. I'm not very comfortable with new technologies. It was the first time I bought something on the internet. My niece lives in Ban-chiaow near Taipei and she told me to get your guide. I will visit her this fall. I am so happy to have your ebook in my computer. You say I can print it... How can i do this? I wish you good luck. I am convinced your book will be a hit. It is very well written.

Don't come on a diet! (Eating in Taipei)

The big mystery here is how Taipei is not the obesity capital of the world given just how much eating goes on! People in Taipei are at it 24/7: on their way to work, when they're shopping, or discussing with friends, family... basically all the time! After reading this Taipei travel guide, you'll know:

  • Where to find the best Chinese food
  • Where the top international restaurants are
  • What the "little-snack" culture of Taiwan is all about
  • What to eat at food stands and nigh markets

Get your free Taipei map!

taipei mapThe best things in life are usually free. The Taipei maps that you can get at Taoyuan International Airport are no exception. Getting all the ones that are available (attractions, transportation, parks) should be the first thing you do as soon as you've cleared custom and grabbed your bags from the carrousel. You'll find them at the visitor center.

DO NOT FORGET TO TAKE YOUR FREE TAIPEI MAPS! Do whatever it takes to remember to grab them; write a note on your hand, tie your shoes together... They are very hard to find outside the airport. Really, they are much, much better than any map of Taipei you'll ever find in any travel guide.

My Taipei map rocks, too!

Taipei Travel Secrets comes with an interactive map of Taipei. When you click on a link for an attraction, a restaurant, or a hotel, you are taken to Google Maps where you can see the exact location. This is what I call orientation 2.0 - it's so convenient! I'm a big fan of those maps (I use them on my iPad whenever I travel), and I'm sure you'll love the one I included in this Taipei travel guide. Here's what it looks like:

On the actual map, you can click on the markers, zoom in or out,
and even see pictures and videos of places around Taipei.

Not sure if this Taipei travel guide is for you?

Here, let me show you what kind of stuff is in Taipei Travel Secrets... This is the first page, the one about the author... me!

The Author

Hi, my name is Ugo and I have been living in Taichung, in the central part of Taiwan since 2000 where I've taught English, studied Chinese and simply enjoyed living life in a different culture. (I'm originally from Montreal, Canada.)

Over the years, I've had the chance to visit Taipei many, many, many times. Most of my friends think I'm weird. Why do I keep on going there? Why would I spend money on train tickets, hotels, and taxis when I could stay in my comfortable Taichung?

I just love Taipei. It's that simple. I love everything about it: the street snacks, friendly people, traditional markets, graceful temples, modernity, the festivals and celebrations... If I had the time, I would spend days, even weeks walking around Taiwan's vibrant capital, doing nothing else than taking pictures and eating.

On Taiwanese-Secrets.com, I'm often asked questions like "What's the one place I shouldn't miss in Taipei?" or "What's the best place to eat, sleep, or drink..." There's no single answer to those questions, but I have an absolute suggestion, a very important tip for you before you start your little expedition around Formosa's capital. Here it is...

Walk.

That's it. Nothing more than that. Just walk. Walk a lot. It's by strolling around aimlessly that you will get to feel the authentic vibe of the city. It's on the streets (especially the small ones) that you will touch the soul of Taipei, witness ancient traditions and customs, meet the locals and discover your own Taiwanese secrets.
I wish you a wonderful adventure in Taipei!

Ugo

What else can I say?

Taipei Travel Secrets has 107 pages and it's already a huge hit even though I haven't started to sell it on Amazon or iTunes. I receive emails every day from happy buyers who tell me that my book has helped them to travel around Taipei. I am in the process of writing more content for the ebook. I travel to Taipei every month to do more research and to keep this guide up to date. You can have (free) access to upcoming editions if you get it from this website today.

Have fun reading this guide!

I wish you a extraordinary adventure in wonderful Taipei!

Ugo
