Recommendation for Learning Chinese in Taipei

by Tim

Hi Ugo,

Great website: nice and clear and really helpful.

I am about to come to Taiwan to learn Mandarin and wondered whether I could ask you a question.

It was always my intention to study at TLI one to one so I was, of course, delighted to read your recommendation for learning Chinese like that.

But I have one question:

If I studied one to one at TLI in Taipei as opposed to Taichung would there be a big difference in quality and my progress?

I know you say here that TLI Taichung is the best place to learn and I am really tempted to go for that option. However, I am interested in doing martial arts for health in my free time and Taipei seems to be the best place for that.

However, if there is a big difference in quality between TLI Taichung and TLI Taipei I would go for Taichung as learning Mandarin if the most important thing for me.

My plan is to learn one to one for 6 months to start with and then take things from there.

I would be very grateful if you could advise me.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards

(my response)

Hi Tim,

First, thank you for taking the time to visit

I have actually heard very good things about the TLI Mandarin language institute in Taipei. If you think you would like to live in Taipei city to learn martial arts, then go for it - I'm sure the Taipei TLI branch also has great teachers and I heard that their system and material is pretty much the same. Also, Taipei is an amazing city that has tons of good restaurants, great nightlife, cafes, English bookstores, the Taipei 101, old temples... I'm sure you won't regret it!

Keep me updated Tim! Good luck in your Chinese studies!
