Life in Taiwan...
Through Bloggers' Eyes
Meet the people who make Taiwan's online community so interesting
What's so special about life in Taiwan? Some Taiwanese and expat bloggers are truly dedicated to answer that question and share their passion for beautiful Formosa! It's my pleasure to introduce you some of these people and their work here.
This sleek photography website won the Best Taiwan Blog Awards for 2008 in the "Best Taiwan Photography Blog 2008" category.
The site features photography from around the island and has a group of over 100 contributors on Flickr. The project was started in August 2007 by Carrie Marshal, a Canadian traveler who's been living in Taiwan for 4 years. Carrie also has a very engaging personal blog where she shares her thoughts on Taiwan and Asia. I encourage you to check out her Several Worlds!
Festivals in Taiwan can be hard to shoot. Everything goes so fast and the next scene is always unpredictable. You have to dodge firecrackers and protect your camera, but you still want to get as close to the action as possible. Craig is a master at this and his Mazu pictures are there to prove it.
Robert Scott Kelly, worked on the last two Lonely Planet guides for Taiwan. Without a doubt, his Pashan blog is the best online reference you'll find about hiking in Taiwan.
The trail descriptions are exhaustive and there are tons of pictures. Wether you're planning a long trek like the Batonguan Historic Trail or a day-trip in the hills outside Taipei, Pashan is the site you want to check out first.
Michael Turton's View from Taiwan blog is... massive! What is it about? Everything! Taiwanese politics, mormons, betel nut girls, hiking, blogging, food, travel... It's all there! And it's all good. Michael is a brilliant writer who manages to describe Taiwanese people and places in a very absorbing fashion.
This no-nonsense website keeps you up to date with important stuff like festivals, upcoming events and the newest blogs on the block. David, originally from Down Under, is in charge of Taiwanderful. From what I can see through his writing, he has travelled extensively around the island and has a vast knowledge of Taiwanese culture.
Fili, from Israel, gives us a different look at life in Taiwan, China and Asia in this very colorful, aesthetic blog. Websites this size are usually hard to navigate. Not Fili's. His content is very well laid out and is plain fun to read! Fili is an inspiration for lots of people in the Taiwanese blogosphere. He's also in charge of Taiwanderful.
In The Daily Bubble Tea, Todd shares his love for Taiwan through vivid photography and refreshing travel stories. I especially enjoy his posts that introduce biking paths in the central part of the island. He also has a wide selection of very good articles about places to visit in and around Taipei.
