I loved Taipei!!!

I just returned from spending a week in Taipei. I am from the states, but I now live in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This was my first trip to Taiwan and I have to admit that I was very surprised by all the good things this island had to offer. The Taiwanese food was delicious, much better than what one can find in KL. The sights were also very nice. I thought Taiwan was going to be like China (which I've visited at least ten times in the past) but it wasn't. The people were friendlier and more polite. Air quality wasn't too bad. Transportation was efficient. My hotel in Taipei was a bit pricey, I stayed at the Cosmos Hotel and paid 105US$ a night, but everything was perfect.

Attractions I can recommend in Taipei city are: the National Palace Museum, the 101 building, Sun Yatsen Memorial Hall, Martyr's Shrine, Chiang Kai Shek Memorial Hall, Taipei Sea World and the night market in Shi-lin (Shilin?). Don't go to the Fine Arts Museum or the Taipei Zoo. The museum was not a good experience for me. Bad art and very boring. Half the cages at the zoo were empty and the other animals were all sleeping.

A note to Taiwanese Secrets: I like this travel guide, the pictures are fabulous, but it would be nice to have more restaurant reviews. I will come back to Taiwan and I will look for information on this site again in the future.

Sorry if I don't have great advice to give to anyone. Next time I go I will try to find Formosa outside Taipei. I really want to visit the mountains and some of the islands (Penghu - Penhgu?) on my next trip.

My pictures are not ready yet. I will come back to post some later.
